Dr. Md Arafat Mahmood

Dr. Md Arafat Mahmood (M. M. Arafat) is currently working as Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, City University of London, UK. He is working on gas sensor technology for detecting diabetes from the exhaled breath. His focus is to fabricate a hybrid breath analyzing sensors based on impedometric and photonic principles.

Dr. Arafat is a Materials Scientist & Engineer and expert in the filed of nano-materials synthesis, nano-composite materials, materials characterizations, gas sensors, soldering materials etc. He developed novel nanostructured materials for various applications by simple, robust, and highly scalable techniques. He developed laboratories from scratch (pilot scale plant, research facilities etc), built experimental setup and designed experimental protocols in various organizations. He is also experienced in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dr. Arafat obtained Ph.D. degree from University of Malaya (QS world rank: 59), Malaysia on Gas Sensors technology using one dimensional metal oxide nanostructures. He received Master of Engineering Science degree from University of Malaya, Malaysia on Soldering and Electronic Packaging technology. He received the degree entitled Bachelor of Science in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Dr. Arafat received a number of awards/recognition including gold medal in the International Invention Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2010), Champion in Engineering Postgraduate Day, Merit scholarship etc. He was recognized as “Bright Spark Scholar” at the University of Malaya. He was awarded ~225000 Euros from European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships for his project “Sensor4Diabetes” (Project - 898736).

Dr. Arafat have published a number of articles in the recognized peer reviewed journals. His articles were presented in international conferences worldwide. He also worked as Review Editor in Reference Module in Materials Science and Materials Engineering. Currently, he is the reviewer of various reputed journals.
